If you have a message that says "Fuel Cap Check" on one of the Honda cars or vans, including but not limited to Accord, Crosstour, Civic, Odyssey etc, you may have a different problem than a problem with your fuel cap.
First check your fuel cap to make sure the O Ring has no damage or rips so it seals when you lock/close it. Then check and see if there is any dirt or if it is bent on the aluminum mouth where you fill the tank. If they all looking good, then you have a problem with your "Purge Valve" This is a common fail in a lot of cars. Order your part or go to service and it takes less than 15 mins to switch it with the new one and message goes away immediately.

There are two ways gas vapor goes out. From rear where you fill your gas tank while your car is parked, pressure is released. If you do a smoke test actually you can see the smoke coming out of the vent right by your gas tank. Pressure gets released from the motor side (front) when driving. If your purge valve fails, very little or no pressure (fumes) is released, causing an error message telling you to check fuel cap.

I am not a mechanic but I learned this when getting mine fixed. I hope this helps someone getting rid off that annoying message on the dashboard :)
